Winston Spencer Churchill (1874-1965) é considerado «o maior britânico de sempre». Estadista internacional, orador, biógrafo, historiador, escritor laureado com o Prémio Nobel da Literatura, as suas obras continuam a ser publicadas pelas principais editoras mundiais. Educado na Harrow School e no Royal Military College de Sandhurst, Winston passou vários anos no exército antes de se tornar correspondente de jornal e depois deputado ao parlamento inglês. Os seus cargos no governo incluíram o de primeiro lorde do Almirantado e o de chanceler do Tesouro. Churchill tornou-se primeiro-ministro em 1940 e durante cinco anos conduziu a Grã-Bretanha ao seu «melhor momento». Derrotado nas eleições de 1945, foi líder da oposição até ser reeleito primeiro-ministro em 1951. Foi e Prémio Nobel da Literatura em 1953. Deixou o cargo de primeiro-ministro em 1955 e permaneceu como deputado até 1964.
